Online Perimenopause & Menopause Consultations

Evidence-based, personalised menopause care from the comfort of your home.

Dr Samia Maciel Camelo is an Australian GP with a special interest in perimenopause and menopause care, offering video consultations for women seeking assessment, treatment and ongoing support.

Online consultations are available on Mondays and Tuesdays.

New patients are welcome for perimenopause and menopause care.

CAN I SEE A MENOPAUSE GP ONLINE?

Yes. Many aspects of perimenopause and menopause care can be assessed and managed through a video consultation.

During an online consultation, we can discuss your symptoms, menstrual history, medical and family history, current medications, lifestyle, treatment goals and any relevant previous investigations.

Where appropriate, we can also discuss treatment options including menopausal hormone therapy (MHT/HRT), non-hormonal treatments and lifestyle strategies.

If an examination, procedure or face-to-face assessment is needed, I will discuss this with you and recommend appropriate in-person care.

WHO ONLINE CONSULTATIONS ARE FOR?

Online consultations may be suitable if you:

  • think you may be experiencing perimenopause or menopause

  • are experiencing symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbance, mood changes, brain fog or changes in your menstrual cycle

  • would like to discuss whether MHT/HRT may be appropriate for you

  • are already using MHT/HRT and would like your treatment reviewed

  • would like to discuss non-hormonal treatment options

  • need ongoing review of an existing perimenopause or menopause management plan

  • live outside the Gold Coast and would prefer to access care by video.

My practice is primarily focused on women aged 35 and over seeking perimenopause, menopause and women’s health care.

WHAT HAPPENS AT MY FIRST ONLINE APPOINTMENT?

Your first perimenopause or menopause consultation is a 45-minute comprehensive assessment.

Before your appointment, you will be asked to complete a symptom questionnaire and provide relevant medical information.

During the consultation, we will discuss:

  • your symptoms and how they are affecting your daily life

  • menstrual and reproductive history

  • your medical history, medications and relevant family history

  • lifestyle, sleep, mood and wellbeing

  • cardiovascular, breast and bone health considerations where relevant

  • possible causes of your symptoms, including hormonal changes

  • evidence-based treatment options, including lifestyle strategies, non-hormonal treatments and MHT/HRT where appropriate

  • your individual preferences and treatment goals.

Together, we will develop a personalised management plan based on your symptoms, medical history, risks and preferences.

What happens after my first consultation?

Menopause treatment often requires review and adjustment over time.

If treatment is commenced or changed, a follow-up consultation will usually be recommended to review your symptoms, response to treatment and any side effects, and to adjust your management plan where needed.

Follow-up consultations are up to 30 minutes and can usually be completed by video where clinically appropriate.

Once your symptoms and treatment are stable, the frequency of ongoing reviews will depend on your individual clinical needs.

Can MHT/HRT be prescribed during an online consultation?

Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), also commonly known as hormone replacement therapy (HRT), can be discussed during an online consultation.

Whether MHT is appropriate for you depends on your symptoms, medical history, individual risk factors and preferences.

Where clinically appropriate, treatment may be prescribed following assessment. In some situations, further information, investigations or an in-person assessment may be recommended before commencing or changing treatment.

MHT is not the only option for managing menopause symptoms. Non-hormonal treatments and lifestyle strategies can also be discussed as part of your individual management plan.

Do I need blood tests before my menopause consultation?

Not necessarily.

Perimenopause and menopause are often assessed based on your age, symptoms and menstrual history rather than hormone blood tests alone.

Whether investigations are helpful depends on your individual circumstances. If blood tests or other investigations are clinically appropriate, these can be discussed during your consultation.

If you already have recent relevant results, please have them available for your appointment where possible.

Where are online consultations available?

Video consultations are available for eligible patients across Australia.

Dr Samia Maciel Camelo is based at Myhealth Benowa Village on the Gold Coast, Queensland, and provides dedicated video consultation days on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Patients who require an examination or face-to-face assessment may be advised to attend an appropriate local healthcare provider or, where practical, arrange an in-person consultation on the Gold Coast.

Are online menopause consultations eligible for a Medicare rebate?

Medicare rebates may be available for eligible telehealth consultations.

Eligibility for a Medicare rebate depends on individual circumstances and the Medicare requirements applicable to the consultation.

Please see the Fees & Medicare page for current consultation fees and further information about Medicare rebates. Click here
